2013 Mercedes-Benz SL Picture Leaked

What's the only thing better than a 700-horsepower super-coupe? Why, a 700-horsepower supercar roadster, of course! Since the last two V12 supercars from Lamborghini – the Diablo and Murcielago – both spawned open-top derivatives, we knew it would only be a matter of time before the Aventador would follow suit.

Now the word on the street is that Lamborghini has got the Aventador Roadster all but completely ready to go, and that it is likely to present the roofless despot at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

We're hearing that the Murcielago Roadster's notoriously useless umbrella roof contraption has been replaced by something more functional, which we can only hope for. One way or another, we'll be finding out soon enough, as the Swiss auto expo is only a few months away.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe gets 507-hp 6.2-liter V8

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG debuted at last week's New York Auto Show sporting a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 packing 451 snorting ponies. On the heels of that debut comes a report that AMG's upcoming C63 AMG Black Series will arrive packing just over 500 horsepower from a tweaked version of the same engine. With that much grunt on tap, the Black Series two-door should go from zero to sideways faster than you can say "new tires."

Mercedes-Benz's 125th Anniversary Scale Models

Mercedes-Benz has announced introduction of its new collection with and branded products to mark its 125th birthday. Its collection includes collection of legendary vehicles produced by the Stuttgart-based car-maker.

The 1:43 models are chosen to celebrate the milestones the company has reached. The selection also includes the first motor car in history; 1886 Benz Patent Motor Car, the 1902 Mercedes Simplex and the superb 1936 Mercedes-Benz 500 K Special Roadster. The Post World War II models which were included in the collection are the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Coupe, the 1972 S-Class and the contemporary CLS.

Mercedes-Benz CL500 Coupe in hands of VATH

The Mercedes-Benz CL500 coupe is the latest car to be dropped in the German tuning firm VÄTH. This company squeezes more power out of the 5.5-liter V8 engine using the sport camshafts, custom stainless steel sport catalysts and air filters. Output is lifted from 388HP to 460HP and 600Nm, while VÄTH also removes the speed limiter allowing the modified CL500 to reach a top speed of 290km/h or 180mph.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 Pictures

The much awaited 2012 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG wasn't supposed to expose until the Geneva Motor Show this March, but a few photos have leaked out. The C63 gets a set of SL-inspired headlamps with ornate light-piping and LED DRLs mounted in the revised fascia. LED's make their way to the tail lamps, while redesigned 18-inch wheels fill the wheel wells and frame upgraded brakes.

It has a 6.2-liter V8 and output remains at 451 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The Development Package will reportedly stick around for 2012, raising output to 481 hp and nixing the 155 mph limiter to allow the C63 to top out at 174 mph. After its launch in Geneva, the revised C-Class will be available for sale with the AMG-fettled version getting a very slight bump in price.

2012 Mercedes-Benz S350 Bluetec at the Detroit Auto Show

Mercedes Benz launched the 2012 S350 Bluetec at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. It's a diesel-powered S-Class destined for consumption only in United States. Audi, BMW and Jaguar don't provide an oil-burning version in U.S. The technical specifications of the 2012 S350 Bluetec has not been revealed but it would be powered by the same 3.5-liter Bluetec V6 found in the E-, ML- and GL-Class vehicles.

CLS shooting brake from Mercedes Benz

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed plans to put the CLS Shooting Brake into production in 2012, with the swoopy wagon set to be built along side a handful of other Benz models at its plant in Sindelfingen.

Originally shown in concept form at the Beijing Motor Show earlier this year, the CLS Shooting Brake will likely debut in production guise early next year. The standard CLS sedan powertrains will carry over to the wagon, including the CLS63 AMG version debuting at the LA Auto Show next week.

Mercedes-Benz prices new biturbo V8 models

Ready to experience the thrill of a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 that produces 536 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque? Unfortunately, that kind of excitement doesn't come cheap. Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing for its upcoming 2011 CL63 AMG coupe and S63 AMG sedan. The two-door starts at $151,125 and the four-door will set you back at least $138,875. Both are available with the optional AMG Performance Package, which ups the power output to 563 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. A little lower on the power pole sits the restyled 2011 CL550 4MATIC, which starts at $114,025, and is motivated by a 4.6-liter V8 which produces 429 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.

The 4.6-liter unit is 20 percent smaller, in terms of displacement, than the engine it replaces, yet produces 12 percent more horsepower, 32 percent more torque and improves fuel economy by 10 percent. The AMG mill also sees considerable gains in power, and thanks to direct-injection and the use of start/stop technology it sees a 20 percent rise in fuel economy

Mercedes-Benz CLS to go green

At the Mercedes press conference during last week's Paris Auto Show, the company rolled out its CLS – the car everyone was really there to see – for dessert. We couldn't have our pudding without eating our meat, though, so there were five courses served before it: the Smart Ad Lib, Smart scooter, Smart bicycle, Mercedes A-Class E-Cell, and a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel S-Class, throughout which time Mercedes CEO Dieter Zetsche and Smart head Annette Winkler took a good thirty minutes to stress the consumer and environmental friendliness of the brand's offerings.

This will not be an isolated incident, either. Zetsche said "We want to be efficiency world champions ... and we will be," and to do so will require initiatives that were "previously unthinkable," such as the hybrid S-Class and the coming four-cylinder. While there's no timeline placed on his pronouncement, it is clear that if M-B is going to stay with BMW and Audi in the emissions and efficiency stakes it will need to take a sledgehammer to conventional ideas of the brand.

Audi has laid out its electronic initiatives and BMW has its Efficient Dynamics, but so far Mercedes has only laid out a range of different projects under no particular umbrella, such as an all-hybrid S-Class line, more efficient ICE engines, and a new range of small cars for America. We wait to see if there is one particular way M-B will ultimately go to fulfill its aim... and if that way will include euthanizing Maybach...
